Student Visa and Residence Permit Requirements

In accordance with Greek law, citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU) and the Schengen Area who wish to study in Greece must obtain a student visa before traveling to Greece. After arrival, students must also apply for a residence permit to remain in the country for the duration of their studies.

The Office of Admissions & Enrollment, in collaboration with the Office of International Student Services, provides guidance and support throughout both the student visa and residence permit application processes. Because visa requirements may vary by country, applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the Greek consular authorities in their country of residence to confirm the specific entry and visa requirements applicable to them.

A student visa is required for all non-EU nationals enrolling at Deree, The American University of Greece U.L.E., for the Fall or Spring semester. While the University will assist you throughout the application process, obtaining the student visa before your arrival in Greece is your responsibility.

To ensure sufficient processing time, you should begin the visa application process 10–12 weeks before the start of your semester.

To apply for a student visa, you will first need an official Letter of Acceptance certified by the Greek Ministry of Education. This document is issued after your enrollment deposit has been received.
Deposit payment instructions will be provided in your acceptance email and may vary depending on your enrollment classification. Once your deposit has been processed, the Office of International Student Services will send your certified Letter of Acceptance to you via courier for use in your visa application.

Students who enter Greece with a valid student visa must apply for a residence permit after arrival. The Office of International Student Services  will provide guidance and support throughout the residence permit application process.
